# ApeX Token (APEX)

> ApeX Protocol is a multi-chain, permissionless decentralized exchange (DEX) engineered for high-performance precision trading in the decentralized derivatives market. It is home to ApeX Pro, a non-custodial and non-KYC DEX powered by StarkWare's Layer 2 scalability engine StarkEx, which operates on an order book model and delivers on a wide range of cross-margined perpetual contracts. The Protocol is underpinned by the governance token $APEX. $APEX is mainly used for revenue sharing via ApeX Pro's Staking Program, which distributes the trading fees generated on the platform to staking participants, while the governance module is set to be launched within the year of 2023. There is a total supply of 1,000,000,000 $APEX tokens: - 23% allocated to the core team and early investors with a 24-month cliff and a vesting period of 24 months - 77% for participation rewards, ecosystem building and liquidity bootstrapping where it is 100% unlocked for TGE, but tokens allocated to the DAO will be locked for 36 months. $APEX utilized for trading or staking rewards will see 10% of the allocation unlocked at TGE with linear vesting over 48 months.
