It was created through Binance's Token Canal program, under which Binance locks BTC in custody and mints an equivalent amount of wrapped tokens on Ethereum. BBTC lets Bitcoin be held and transferred in Ethereum wallets and used in Ethereum-based applications, with redemption relying on Binance as custodian.
