# Wrapped AVAX (WAVAX)

> Wrapped AVAX (WAVAX) is an ERC-20 compatible token representing AVAX, the native coin of the Avalanche C-Chain, on a 1:1 basis. AVAX can be deposited into the WAVAX contract to mint WAVAX and redeemed back at any time, which lets the native coin be used in smart contracts, DEX liquidity pools and other DeFi applications that require a standard token interface. Bridged versions of WAVAX also exist on other networks.
